Dr Harry Hagopian, the Bishops' Consultant on the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region

In today's Middle East Analysis we're looking at the rise of 'Political Islam' in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region and the impact on its people.

Our MENA consultant is Dr Harry Hagopian. Dr Hagopian is an EU-based international lawyer who also holds a number of key consultancy positions on political, ecumenical and inter-faith issues relating to the Middle East, North Africa & Gulf regions.

He starts today's podcast by defining key terms - words that are used frequently and sometimes have a variety of definitions attached to them. Fundamentalism, radicalism, Islamism to name a few.

Dr Hagopian goes on to discuss how Islamism has played its part in the popular uprisings of the last two-and-a-half-years and the current state of play.

Today also marks an important anniversary for Dr Hagopian and Armenians around the globe. His final thought in this podcast focuses on the horrors of the Armenian Genocide - a tragedy that claimed 1.5 million lives.
